The Income Tax Department has extended the tax audit filing deadline for the financial year 2024–25 (assessment year 2025–26), providing much-needed relief to taxpayers and professionals. The new due date for furnishing the Tax Audit Report (Form 3CA/3CB-3CD) has been extended to 10th November 2025, from the earlier deadline of 31st October 2025. This extension was announced considering the challenges faced by taxpayers in completing audits and filing returns on time due to system issues, workload, and last-minute changes in reporting requirements. The extension ensures that businesses and auditors have adequate time to verify data accuracy and maintain compliance with the Income Tax Act. However, taxpayers are advised not to delay filings until the last moment, as penalties and interest may still apply if related income tax returns are not submitted by the corresponding extended due dates.
This was the second extension for furnishing the audit report. Earlier, it was extended from September 30 to November 10 following the representations from various professional associations, including chartered accountant bodies, highlighting certain difficulties being faced by taxpayers and practitioners in timely completion of audit reports. The representatives cited various reasons including disruptions caused by floods and natural calamities in certain parts of the country, the CBDT said.
